Nothing here is new. It is how families already talk, except that only the person you sent it to can open it.
Voice and video
Calls ring through the lock screen like a normal phone call. When two phones cannot reach each other directly, the call is relayed through servers close to you, including in Mogadishu, Djibouti and Nairobi.
Your message is locked on your phone and unlocked on theirs. In between it is noise. It crosses our servers the way a sealed envelope crosses a post office, and we hold no key that opens it.
Nothing about you is for sale, because nothing about you is readable in the first place.
We do not upload your address book to work out who you know.
Close your account and your messages, photos and profile go with it.
Half of us live somewhere our family is not. Fariin is for that half.
One person makes it, for the people he calls at odd hours because of the time difference. That is why the calls matter as much as the chat. It is also why a group has to hold a whole family instead of a few friends, and why it cannot assume a fast connection.
